Monee DOT Facility Key Points:

Architecture and engineering firms were selected in April 2026; design development began in May 2026.

Two separate contractors are each handling one of the two buildings, Fern said; no cost figure appears in the packet or the meeting record.

WILL COUNTY — The Will County Department of Transportation’s planned administration building and maintenance garage in Monee is proceeding on its posted schedule, Director of Facilities William Fern told the County Board’s Capital Improvements and IT Committee on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026.

The project appears first in the Facilities Department’s capital projects status summary, which identifies the site as 16841 Laraway Road and 25930 S. Egyptian Trail in Monee. According to the summary, architecture and engineering firms were selected in April 2026 and design development began the following month. Construction is anticipated to start in spring 2027 and to finish in summer 2028.

“The schedule is as stated there and moving along swimmingly, I should say,” Fern told the committee. He said two contractors are involved, with one firm building one structure and a second firm building the other, and that the work “is right on schedule right now.”

No committee member asked a question about the project, and the item drew no discussion. The facilities report is an informational update; the committee took no vote on it.

The capital projects summary does not list a construction cost, a funding source, a square footage or a site acreage for the Monee facility, and none was stated at the meeting. The record also does not say which Department of Transportation functions will move to the site or what becomes of the operations the new buildings replace.

Monee sits in County Board District 2, represented by Judy Ogalla of Monee and Frankie Pretzel of New Lenox. Ogalla attended Tuesday’s committee meeting and spoke on other items, but did not raise the DOT project.

The facility is one of four capital projects the department listed for October, alongside roof replacements at the State’s Attorney’s Office/Court Annex at 57 N. Ottawa in Joliet and at Sunny Hill Nursing Home at 421 Doris Ave., and completed parking lot and sidewalk restoration at the Community Health Center at 1106 Neal Ave.
