FRANKFORT — A two-story wood-frame home in the 20000 block of Rosewood Court was destroyed by fire Aug. 11, and two occupants were displaced, the Frankfort Fire Protection District said.

The district was dispatched at approximately 10:48 a.m. for a report of downed wires arcing at the location, according to the release. While companies were responding, dispatch advised that the residence was on fire. Frankfort units responded with mutual aid from the Mokena and New Lenox fire protection districts.

Frankfort Engine 72 arrived to find heavy fire showing from the residence and began defensive operations, the district said. All occupants had evacuated before fire companies arrived. Command asked dispatch to notify ComEd that live wires were down across the rear yard, and crews remained in a defensive posture for the duration of the incident because of the energized lines. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Units cleared the scene at approximately 6:36 p.m.

ComEd was contacted multiple times through dispatch, but no utility crew was assigned to the scene, according to the district. At approximately 3 p.m., roughly five hours into the incident, a district member located a ComEd crew working in the area and requested its response, the district said. That crew confirmed the lines were still energized and worked approximately one hour to render them safe.

The home is a total loss, and a dollar loss estimate is not available, the district said. The cause and origin remain under investigation by the district, and no determination of cause has been made.

The district thanked the Mokena Fire Protection District, the New Lenox Fire Protection District and the member departments of MABAS Divisions 19 and 7 for their assistance.
