LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP — A 31-year-old woman was shot and killed and an adult man was wounded outside a home in the 200 block of Dellwood Avenue in Lockport Township on the evening of Sept. 2, 2026, the Will County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to the home at 7:54 p.m. on a report of a shooting and found the two people in a driveway, according to the department. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said. The man is expected to recover.

A preliminary investigation indicates the two “were merely bystanders who got caught in some sort of crossfire while they were standing outside,” the department said.

The woman’s identity will be released by the Will County Coroner’s Office, according to the sheriff’s office.

The department said earlier Wednesday evening that deputies were responding to a home on Dellwood Avenue and asked the public to avoid the area, saying a large police presence was expected for several hours. It said further updates could be expected the following morning.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is continuing. No information on a suspect, an arrest, or a possible motive was released.
