FRANKFORT — A 40-year-old woman has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son at a Frankfort home, the Frankfort Police Department said in an announcement issued Sept. 4, 2026.

Officers responded at about 4:04 p.m. Sept. 1 to the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court for a report of an unresponsive juvenile, police said. A 2-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the department. The boy’s mother, Corie A. Walsh, was also taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Three other juveniles were found at the home unharmed.

An autopsy was performed Sept. 2 by the Will County Coroner’s Office, the department said. Final cause and manner of death are pending.

Walsh was charged following an investigation by Frankfort police and the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force, according to the department. Police said she is in custody and being held for medical treatment, and that she will be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility to await a detention hearing once released from treatment.

The charges are allegations. The department said all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Police Chief Leanne Chelepis, who issued the announcement, said the department’s thoughts are with the family and everyone affected, and asked the community to respect the family’s privacy.
